How long does it take to get a permit?

In Geneva, 6 to 8 weeks for a first work permit, 3 months for a renewal or a G permit, 6 to 8 months for family reunification, and 12 months for an early C permit.

When can I apply for the C permit?

After 10 years in general, after 5 years for the EU-15, EFTA, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, or early after 5 years with B1 spoken level.

What language level do I need?

A1 spoken to extend a B permit (non-EU), A2 spoken and A1 written for the C permit, B1 spoken for the early C permit.

My permit expires soon. What should I do?

Submit your renewal application as soon as you receive the notice, and in Geneva no later than 15 days before expiry. Our renewal package costs CHF 190.

Can I change jobs with a B permit?

Yes for EU/EFTA citizens. For a non-EU B permit tied to a job, the change usually has to be authorised.

I am going abroad for a year. What happens to my C permit?

It lapses after 6 months' absence, unless you apply to keep it before you leave (for up to 4 years).

Can my spouse join me?

Yes, if you have suitable accommodation and do not depend on social assistance and, for non-EU nationals, if your spouse has A1 spoken level or is taking a course.

What happens to my permit after a divorce?

After 3 years of marriage and successful integration, or for serious personal reasons, it can be kept. Have your situation checked quickly.

Are you lawyers?

No. We are an administrative and translation service. You sign and submit the application; if it is refused, our partner lawyer can review the decision.
