Renewing your B permit
You usually receive a notice before your permit expires. You then need to act quickly: an incomplete application delays the new permit, and an expired card makes travel and paperwork harder.
When and how
- Geneva: return the notice or form K by post at least 15 days before expiry, with a copy of your identity document. Indicative processing time: 3 months.
- Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel, Jura, Biel: at your municipality (residents' registration office), with the expiry notice and a valid identity document.
Language
For non-EU/EFTA nationals, extending a B permit requires A1 spoken level in the language of your place of residence, or enrolment on a course. See language levels.
Our package
CHF 190: form, documents, language certificate if required, follow-up until the new permit. With the Permit Reminder, you will never miss the deadline again.
