The student permit
To study in Switzerland, you need enrolment at a school, sufficient funds and accommodation. Non-EU/EFTA nationals go through a visa procedure.
The requirements
- A confirmation of enrolment from the school.
- Sufficient financial means: CHF 20,000 a year or CHF 2,500 a month in Geneva, CHF 20,000 a year in Neuchâtel.
- Accommodation.
- Non-EU/EFTA: a commitment to leave Switzerland at the end of your studies, except for graduates of a recognised higher education institution.
Working while you study
After 6 months, non-EU/EFTA students may work up to 15 hours a week during term time and full time during the holidays. The employer applies and the school confirms that your studies are not affected.
After graduation
Graduates of a Swiss higher education institution have 6 months to find a job matching their qualifications. After that, a work permit is required.
